The ZFAS unit is responsible for: the MIB3 infotainment system in the center console + processing for driver assistance features (ACC) and lane-keeping camera data; it uses a completely different hardware setup from the MOI3 system on the Volkswagen MQB platform, and their firmware is not interchangeable
MU= Module Update, USB offline update package- 4N0 / 4N1 are Audi genuine part number prefixes (D5 A8, C8 A6/A7)
Version sequence
0365 < 0385 < 0511
- 0365: Early version; occasional errors with driver assistance features and system lag
- 0385: Mid-cycle stable version; fixes some false alarms in driver assistance and CarPlay issues
- 0511: Late stable version; optimizes auxiliary camera recognition, MIB3 interface lag, wireless CarPlay, and 360-degree panoramic view; fixes numerous underlying CAN communication bugs
⚠️ Important Risk
- Part numbers must match exactly: 4N1 906 961, 4N0906961BK, BJ, and AR are not hardware-compatible with each other; incorrect flashing will brick the vehicle and render driver assistance features inoperable. ZFAS is the main control unit for driver assistance systems; bricking the vehicle will directly disable ACC and lane-keeping assist.
- Region codes: B/C/BC represent sales regions (European version, Russian version, etc.). Flashing firmware across regions will result in: mismatched navigation maps, failed driver assistance calibration, loss of FEC activation, and certain features being grayed out and unavailable.
- After upgrading ZFAS, the driver assistance cameras must be recalibrated! If you only flash the firmware without recalibration, ACC and Lane Keeping Assist will not function properly.
- The update requires a stable vehicle power supply; the process takes a long time, and a power interruption during the update will render the head unit unusable.
- Distinguish between ZFAS (1st generation) and ZFAS3—the hardware is different, and firmware cannot be flashed between them.
